What is deep cleaning?

Deep cleaning, often called spring cleaning, is a more extensive clean done a couple of times a year — usually in spring and autumn. It differs from the regular weekly or monthly cleaning by also including surfaces and spaces that there normally isn't time for.

Kitchen — beyond the ordinary

• Cleaning the inside of the oven (degreasing)
• Cleaning the extractor fan filter (degreasing or replacement)
• Emptying and cleaning the fridge and freezer, including defrosting if needed
• Cleaning the inside of all cabinets and drawers
• Descaling the coffee maker and kettle
• Polishing counters and stainless-steel surfaces

Bathroom — deep clean

• Descaling taps, shower head and tiles
• Cleaning grout with a grout brush
• Cleaning the floor drain
• Inside of the mirror cabinet and all shelves
• Ventilation grille — vacuumed or washed

Windows and textiles

Window cleaning is the task that most clearly sets deep cleaning apart from regular cleaning. A deep cleaning usually includes cleaning all windows from the inside, and sometimes from the outside depending on accessibility. Curtains and blinds are vacuumed or taken down and washed.

General areas

• Doors, door frames and trim — wiped with a suitable cleaning agent
• Skirting boards — wiped along the entire length
• Radiators — vacuumed and wiped down
• Lights and ceiling lamps — wiped or vacuumed
• Sockets and switches — wiped down
• Bookshelves and display shelves — emptied, wiped and refilled

What is NOT automatically included?

The following are usually add-ons that cost extra:

• Window cleaning from the outside (requires equipment or a ladder)
• Carpet washing (a separate service)
• Laundry and ironing
• Cleaning of a balcony or garage
• Dry cleaning of furniture or rugs

How long does a deep cleaning take?

For an apartment of 70–90 m², expect 4–8 hours, depending on condition. For a house it can take a full working day with a cleaning team. Always ask the cleaning firm for a time estimate before booking.
