Bright, freshly cleaned living room in a Stockholm apartment

What does home cleaning in Stockholm cost in 2026?

A breakdown of what you actually pay for home cleaning in Stockholm — hourly rates, the RUT deduction and what affects the final bill.

The price of home cleaning in Stockholm 2026

Home cleaning in Stockholm usually costs between SEK 350 and 500 per hour before the RUT deduction. With RUT you pay half, i.e. roughly SEK 175–250/h, since the Swedish Tax Agency pays the cleaning company directly.

For an average apartment of 70–80 m², most cleaning firms allow 3–4 hours per visit. That means an actual cost of SEK 525–1,000 after RUT for a regular cleaning.

What is usually included in the price?

  • Vacuuming and mopping of all rooms
  • Wiping of surfaces, counters and window sills
  • Cleaning of the kitchen including stove and microwave
  • Cleaning of the bathroom and toilet
  • Emptying of bins

Window cleaning, cleaning the inside of the oven and emptying the fridge are rarely included and are added as extras.

Factors that affect the price

The size and condition of the home

A 150 m² house naturally requires more time than a 35 m² studio. Cleaning companies usually base the quote on square metres and the number of rooms. Homes that are cleaned regularly (every other week or weekly) take less time per visit, which can lower the total cost.

Frequency

Monthly cleaning is more expensive per visit than every-other-week cleaning, because the dirt has time to build up. Most firms offer a discount for a fixed subscription.

Centrality

Cleaning companies in the inner city may charge marginally higher prices than those in the suburbs, but the differences are rarely dramatic. A travel surcharge may apply for hard-to-reach addresses, however.

The RUT deduction — how it works in practice

The RUT deduction means you only pay 50% of the labour cost. Materials and any outlays are not deductible. The maximum amount is SEK 75,000 per person per year (ROT and RUT share the cap). The deduction is handled directly between the cleaning company and the Swedish Tax Agency — you are only invoiced for your half.

Summary
